Melissa Young, LCSW, CYT

Melissa is a Licensed clinical social worker, a certified crisis, and trauma treatment therapist, and certified in Dialectical Behavioral Therapy Treatment. She uses her Social Work Supervisor Certification at D'Ivad Zzen Therapy Boutique to provide clinical supervision for therapists working towards independent licensure.

Melissa graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from Rutgers University in Camden in January 1999. She began her career as a Senior Technical Assistant at the CARES Institute in Stratford, NJ, where she worked on several research grants. Melissa's grant experience at the CARES Institute includes NIMH and SAMSHA grants. She also was involved in coding treatment session tapes, providing treatment assessments, co-leading physical abuse groups utilizing Combined Parent Child-Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, and preparing and attending multidisciplinary team meetings.

Melissa later received her Master's degree in Social Work at Widener University. She interned as a social worker at Our Lady of Lourdes hospital in the Acute Rehabilitation program, Center for Family Services IOP, and their juvenile sex offenders’ program. Much of Melissa's post-graduate work has focused on trauma treatment, having worked at the Center for Family Services in their youth shelter, youth IOP program, in-home outpatient level youth and family therapy program, and juvenile sex offenders’ program. She later began working for Youth Consultation Services as a clinician in one of their male young adult psychiatric group homes. Later Melissa was promoted to a Site Administrator at one of their female young adult psychiatric group homes. Over the past seven years, she continued to work with the young adult population as a crisis counselor for Rowan University.

Melissa recently became a Certified Yoga Teacher. She completed her 200-hour yoga teacher training with Steph Mitchell at Yoga & Ayurveda Center online yoga school. In her years of training and working with clients who have experienced trauma, she began to understand the connection between the mind, body, and spirit and the impact movement can have on the healing process. Melissa became a yoga instructor to incorporate the philosophy of yoga and movement into the therapy process for clients who have experienced trauma and feel "stuck."

Over the years, Melissa has supervised many graduate students completing their internships at Youth Consultation Services and Rowan University. She enjoys the supervision process and being able to help clinicians develop their clinical skills.
